Princes to Patrons – The Legacy of CPE Bach to Beethoven
John Pruett, violin; Stephanie Vial, cello; Beverly Biggs, fortepiano

Musical selections.  CPE Bach Sonata for violin and fortepiano; Haydn Trio Sonata; Beethoven Variations on “See the Conquering Hero Comes,” from Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus,  for cello & fortepiano. The program traces the thread of greatness from the eldest of JS Bach’s sons (his music was quite unusual for the period); through Haydn, to Beethoven, with commentary on the links among these famous composers.
Location – 120 Winsome Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. This spacious country home sits on a wooded estate on the west side of Chapel Hill.   MapQuest link  http://www.mapquest.com/mq/10-s3Pk.   Kindly park on Winsome Lane and walk up the wooded driveway. (There are a small number of  spaces next to the house for patrons with disabilities.) Tickets ($15) are available at the door.  Concert time is  3:00 pm. Reception follows.

Featuring torrid music of the early Italian baroque and masterpieces of the late Italian baroque.

Erica Dunkle & Florence Peacock, singers; Peter Cama-Lekx, baroque violin; Joey O’Donnell, baroque violin & viola; John O’Brien, baroque viola; Barbara Krumdieck, baroque cello; William Simms, theorbo; Beverly Biggs, harpsichord.

Musical selections: Early Italian baroque music by Tarquinio Merula: Ciaciona, Ballo detto Pollicio, Ballo detto Eccardo, and three passionate vocal/instrumental selections: “Quando io volsi l’altra sera” – “Folle e ben che si crede” – and the haunting lullaby, “Hor ch’e tempo di dormire”.  The late Italian baroque is represented with Vivaldi Follia for two violins & basso continuo; Vivaldi Motet, “Nulla in mundo pax sincera”; and Corelli Trio Sonata, Op. 2, no. 12.
